Decatur Utilities

Decatur Utilities General Manager - Decatur Utilities is financially sound and has been consistently able to allow its customers to enjoy some of the lowest utility rates in the southeastern United States. The customer mix consists of large industries, business and residential. It currently employs approximately 160 team members. The general manager has the overall responsibility for managing all aspects of the utilities operations through the managers of its water, sewer, natural gas, and electrical departments. The combined units generate an income of approximately $136M/per year. The general manager reports to a utility board composed of three individuals appointed by the City Council for nine year staggered terms.

The following qualifications are required:

1.   Minimum of B.S. degree in engineering, business, or accounting.

2.   Minimum of ten years work experience in utility plant operation, manufacturing or public utilities.

3.   Experience in equipment operations, management, customer relations, long range planning, environmental issues, interaction with various government officials, budget management, economic development and team leading are highly desirable.

4.   Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Negotiable salary in six figure range depending on applicant's qualifications. Excellent benefit package included.

Electric Manager - Decatur Utilities, a multi-system municipal public utility, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Electric Manager.  This position reports directly to the General Manager and requires a Bachelor's degree in business management, engineering or utility related degree.  A minimum of ten years experience in the electric utility industry is preferred.   This position manages, plans, coordinates and directs activities in the engineering, construction, dispatch, maintenance and operations of the electric system to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed timeframe, budget parameters and safety guidelines.

Huntsville Utilities

Gas Engineering Superintendent - Regular full time position supervising the natural gas engineering staff in the layout, design and work order preparation for system extensions, upgrades and rehabilitation.  Assures that a high standard of customer service is provided while promoting safety practices and policies.  Conducts personnel matters such as selection, training, discipline, performance appraisals, work assignments, promotions, employee relations and salary adjustments.  Evaluates new products and makes recommendation for use.  Gathers information, analyses data and solves problems relations to the section’s operations.  Prepares feasibility studies and makes forecasts of system requirements.  Determines and disseminates construction standards and ensures that maps are updated in a timely fashion.  Prepares budgets, cost estimates, ensures work orders are prepared and scheduled work loads accordingly to established priorities.

Requirements:  B.S. degree in an engineering discipline (i.e., CE, ME, EE) is required.  PE certification is desired.  Minimum of five (5) years practical experience in design and construction standards for transmission and distribution systems is required.  Familiarity with D.O.T. 191 &192 Standards is required.  Proficiency in the use of MS Office tools (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access) is required.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Must have excellent oral and written skills and be knowledgeable in the latest trends and developments in the industry.  Subject to recall and on-call duty.  Competitive salary and benefits package.  EOE.

Sheffield Utilities

Electric Engineering Supervisor — Sheffield Utilities, a multi-system municipal public utility, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Electric Engineering Supervisor. This position reports directly to the General Manager and requires a Bachelor's degree in Electric Engineering. A minimum of ten years experience in the electric utility industry is preferred. The applicant must be licensed as an Alabama Professional Engineer or be able to obtain registration within twelve months  The applicant must have knowledge and experience in substations, GIS mapping, SCADA, and engineering construction plans.

Excellent fringe benefit package includes Retirement System of Alabama benefits. Salary range being commensurate with qualification.
